What to Know

Critics Consensus

Careening from one genre to the next, this collaboration between Daisy May Cooper and Selin Hizli navigates tonal whiplash deftly enough to arrive at the platonic ideal of anxious comedy.

Am I Being Unreasonable?: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News The prim and pious should best avoid this irreverent, outrageous six-part British import that dabbles a little too casually at times with different genres and tone shifts. Rated: 3/4 May 31, 2023 Full Review Am I Being Unreasonable?: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Judy Berman TIME Magazine Sure to hit the spot for fans of series like Dead to Me and Fleabag, in which extremely relatable women wrestle with extremely dark secrets. Apr 29, 2023 Full Review Am I Being Unreasonable?: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe The show isn't easily comparable to other comedies, which adds to the fun. There are tonal shifts aplenty, making it a bumpy ride -- too bumpy for some, no doubt. It worked for me. Apr 12, 2023 Full Review Am I Being Unreasonable?: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Allyson Johnson Pajiba It relies too heavily on the performances to bolster an otherwise rudimentary and forgettable script that uses shock to drive the plot. Apr 19, 2023 Full Review Am I Being Unreasonable?: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Megan Sunday The Spool Am I Being Unreasonable? should be appreciated as one goes. Binging will get you some answers, yes. However, make sure not to miss everything else along the way. Apr 15, 2023 Full Review Am I Being Unreasonable?: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media Nonetheless, Am I Being Unreasonable? is still lots of fun, and a quick binge you probably won't be able to stop yourself from taking if you watch the first episode. Kalissa H I did not know if I would like this show, but I really enjoyed it. The ending was shocking and made me want more! Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/28/23 Full Review Margaret F Following the chaotic but comedic life of a mother, it is hard to get the tone of some of the scenes (sadness? horrific? funny?). However, I laughed out loud enough times that it did not matter. The main character ,Nic, strong minded and a bit crabby, meets up with a slightly lost and possibly creepy other mother ,Jen, at their childrens school. The plot is not a straight forward but involves flashbacks to a stressful time for Nic. The side characters are well developed. Her son Ollie stands out for his own ability to create comedy out of the driest of lines, so British and he lightens up all the scenes he is in. I thought it was great fun. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/10/23 Full Review Tabetha Misrepresented. I realize most people like watching really messed up stuff currently. I personally don't. I don't want to watch things that not only show the worst of what humanity does but also in turn influences viewers to think these cruel acts are just part of being human and completely forgivable. But I do realize it's the trend and one could say if you don't like it, don't watch it. And this is why I give such a low score. This show comes across and publicizes itself as your run of the mill comedy drama. One that at first seems to err much more to the comedy side. Esp given its half hour sitcom time frame. It's shifts in tone repeatedly. Once to reveal a huge trauma the lead is suffering from. Fine, unexpected but I was still on board. The next shift is when there is repeat scenes of animal cruelty by the child. In which it is never addressed by mother character and which is just excused because the kid "saw stuff" instead of it being disgusting serial killer in the making behavior. The last large shift is the cliff hanger of the season which takes it over the top in its darkness and it's not until then that you fully realize you've been watching a much darker show than you went in expecting or in my case would ever watch willingly. I really hate when project's misrepresent themselves and I wind up having watched something I never would have willingly put on. If you love watching people just being their most cruel selves go for it. Just don't expect it to be a comedy or a light watch AT ALL. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/23/23 Full Review Tanya This is somewhat of what I had in mind when thinking about writing a comedy. It's random, odd, real; I love it. Absolutely will be sad when I'm finished... Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review R Z Really good. It's funny, there's twists and turns, and the ending made my jaw drop.
